Estimates vary, but it’s likely that 95% of men in America today are dangerously isolated from in-depth relationships with other men. Most men are not close enough with their fathers to ask for parenting, marital or personal advice. Most men don’t have close enough relationships with other man to share common manhood struggles with male sexuality, and Promise Keepers found that 65% of men said that sexual integrity was their #1 area of greatest struggle. One small bit of research found that only 25% of Christian men even claimed that they were 100% open, honest and vulnerable with their wives. So men in America are isolated, and that’s dangerous.
Men need relationships with other men ~ intentional, in-depth, totally open, honest, trusting, confidential, vulnerable, supportive, character-building relationships in which men meet together regularly, share brokenness as well as triumphs, pray for one another, learn to set manly and godly goal for their lives, and find not only accountability but a place of genuine attachment.
Legacy Teams provide all that and more for men. And if a small group of younger men wish to double-down on the effectiveness of a Legacy Team, they’ll invite a guy who’s 20 or 40 years older than they, to join them as their team’s mentor.
