Discipleship On Stilts

Two of my grandkids wanted me to build stilts, so I bought some oak boards, put the foot pads low to the ground in case they fell,  and soon they were hiking around the yard at nine inches off the ground.  Having mastered nine inches, they wanted more, so we jacked the footpads up to fifteen; then twenty-one.  As I watched them increasing their balance and ability to take longer strides, the thought occurred that being a disciple of Jesus is somewhat like the process of using taller stilts.  There is effort required, but with each level of growth there are benefits and blessings.  This chapter begins with a tongue-in-cheek look at what constitutes being a “disciple.”  It then goes a little deeper with thoughts about how discipleship interfaces with male sexuality.
